KEM FORBES - S/B #1601

Kem Forbes of San Diego, CA shows off his new Bob Debow Santa Barbara Class Yacht, "FANTASY" with his new Carr sails.  He commented to us that he likes the smooth roach curves we provide on both main and jib leaches.  The reduction in area is very small and more than made up for by being able to use the curves to visually assess the trim and tune of the rig while the boat is underway.

Ken also was quick to mention superior performance to windward compared to previous suits of sails he had tried from other sailmakers.

Note the very clever use of painted jib stripe that Kem applied to match his hull's paint scheme.  Easy to pick out on the starting line. All you need to see is the first inch or two of the jib luff and you know where you are.

TOM GERMER - EC-12

Tom's EC-12 shows use of smooth leech curves to develop similar twist in both sails.  Middle and lower draft stripe on mainsail show very slight backwinding influence of the jib, indicating that the jib slot has been set quite optimally.  #1911 to weather seems to have jib slot set too wide, and its mainsail was probably built with a flatter head.  #62's telltales show the main to be well trimmed for the conditions.

David Tanski of Calimesa, California has worked hard to produce some very nice replica vintage Marblehead Class boats. Below he has provided us with photos of his latest, a CHEERIO III, outfitted with our 2 oz stabilized nylon, paneled sails. On the wind he shows the shape of speed with nicely parallel mainsail and jib leeches, and appropriate twist for the wind speed encountered. Nice job Dave, thanks for the photos. David Tanski Photos
